That’s why we make significant investments in Research and Development. Our strong commitment to R&D empowers us to explore new frontiers, develop groundbreaking products, and continuously support our customers in crafting the highest quality baked goods, patisserie, and chocolates.
Our R&D efforts are driven by a deep understanding of consumer insights and customer needs. Our inspiration is driven by the rich history and local traditions of bakery, patisserie and chocolate cultures to the daily conversations we have with customers about their needs. But also by evolving trends and evolutions in science and technology.
The foundation of our consumer understanding is based on our always-on consumer survey Taste TomorrowAnd to evaluate new products before we launch them, we also leverage the insights we can get from our Sensobus. A mobile sensory analysis lab on wheels that can welcome up to 300 consumers per day.
While we listen to consumers and customers to get inspired, we also engage in upstream research. Sometimes, customers and consumers don’t know exactly what they want until they see it. As Henry Ford famously said, “If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said ‘faster horses.’”
Our researchers are dedicated to understanding the mechanisms by which ingredients, packaging and processing impact our Products Texture, Taste and Shelf-Life, to exploring new technologies based on new ingredients, packaging and processing that have the potential to revolutionize the food industry.
Our Upstream Research team – through an open innovation approach – collaborates with universities and research centers, with suppliers as well as with start-ups to be at the forefront of exploring, developing and implementing cutting-edge innovations to inspire our customers and answer their needs.
We aim at leading innovation in Bakery, Patisserie and Chocolate and have a firm belief that this requires the right mindset and investments in order to identify new opportunities and create disruptive products that set new standards. As part of this, we also invest in data management and generative AI tools that enable predictive modelling—enhancing both product development and the way we serve our customers.
